Roles

Everyone in a hangar has one of three roles. The hangar admin picks it when they invite you, and can change it later.

• Pilot – flies and logs: flights, fuel, squawks, maintenance.
• Mechanic – maintenance, squawks and inspections, but not flight time.
• Hangar admin – everything a pilot can do, plus the aircraft, the members and the hangar’s settings.

Your role belongs to the hangar, not to your account. You can be an admin in one hangar and a pilot in another. Your role in the hangar you’re in shows under your name – Pilot, Mechanic or Admin – at the bottom of the sidebar on a computer, and at the bottom of the More sheet on a phone. What sets them apart

Pilots fly. A pilot starts and closes flights, logs flights and fuel, books aircraft for themselves, reports squawks, and logs oil changes, maintenance and inspections. A pilot can edit or delete their own flights, oil changes and inspection entries, and resolve only the squawks they reported.

Mechanics don’t log flight time. They don’t see Start flight, Log a flight or Add fuel; on a phone the middle of the tab bar is Log MX instead. A mechanic resolves any squawk, logs maintenance, oil and inspections, edits oil change and inspection entries whoever logged them, keeps each engine’s details and overhauls, and puts maintenance blocks on the schedule. A mechanic can’t book an aircraft to fly it.

Hangar admins can do what a pilot can, plus:

• log a flight or book an aircraft on behalf of another member
• edit or delete anyone’s flight, and change what a flight costs – see Frozen rates
• add, edit and archive aircraft, and set up inspections
• invite members, change their roles and choose which aircraft each one may fly
• set the booking rules and the rest of Hangar settings
• like a mechanic, resolve any squawk, edit any oil change or inspection entry, and keep engine details, overhauls and maintenance blocks

If something goes wrong

• “Pilots can only resolve squawks they reported” – a pilot sees Resolve on every squawk, but only the pilot who reported it, a mechanic or an admin can close it. Ask one of them.
• Your role is wrong for what you do – only a hangar admin can change it. See Members.
