I can't see an aircraft

For: Pilots · Hangar admins · Mechanics

The aircraft picker is the aircraft name at the top of the sidebar, or the tail number at the top of the Dashboard on a phone. Find what you’re seeing below.

It’s grayed out and says “no access”

You’re not allowed to use that aircraft. You can see it in the picker and on the schedule, but you can’t open it, book it or fly it. Hovering over it on a computer says “You don’t have access to this aircraft”.

What to do: ask your hangar admin. They give access in Hangar settings → Members, from the ⋯ menu on your row → Aircraft access…. A hangar admin can have their own access limited too; on your own row the item reads Aircraft access… (yours). See Seeing an aircraft vs. flying it and Choose who can fly which aircraft.

  • It’s in another hangar. The picker lists every hangar you’re in, each with its own aircraft. Look under the other hangar’s name. See Belonging to more than one hangar.
  • It’s been retired. A hangar admin archived it. An archived aircraft leaves the picker and the schedule, but nothing is deleted. The admin sees it at the bottom of Fleet marked Archived, and can bring it back with Unarchive from its ⋯ menu.
  • It hasn’t been added yet. Only a hangar admin can add an aircraft. See Add or retire an aircraft.

RampMates shows this instead of the app when your hangar has aircraft but none you’re allowed to use. It lists the fleet and says “Ask your hangar admin for access to a plane in …”. Ask them for access to the one you fly.

If you’re in more than one hangar, the hangar menu at the top of that screen takes you to another one.

“No aircraft yet” means the hangar has no aircraft at all. A hangar admin adds the first one right on that screen.

The aircraft you were on has been archived, or your access to it removed. As soon as RampMates notices – when you open the app, or the next time you do something on that aircraft – it opens another aircraft you can use, or No aircraft available if there isn’t one. Ask your hangar admin if you expected to keep it.

It’s on the schedule but I can’t book it

Section titled “It’s on the schedule but I can’t book it”

Dragging on its column does nothing, and it’s grayed out in the Aircraft list of a new booking. That’s the same thing as “no access” above. If every aircraft is like that and Book is grayed out too, your hangar is read-only, and a banner across the app says why: see Start flight was refused.

Mechanics don’t book aircraft to fly. Saving a booking as a mechanic is refused with “Only pilots and hangar admins can book the aircraft”. What a mechanic can put on the schedule is a maintenance block: press Find a time, then Book on an opening.
