Mechanics: your first week

As a mechanic you see the logbook, squawks and inspections of every aircraft you have access to, and you record the work you do on them. You don’t log flight time, so you won’t see Start flight, Add fuel or Log a flight in the menus.

Get in

A hangar admin invites you. Open the email You’re invited to Hangar: … on RampMates, press Set up your account, choose a password of at least 8 characters and press Create account. The link works for 7 days. Work for more than one hangar? Each one invites you separately, and you switch between them with the picker – see Belonging to more than one hangar.

Your first week

1. Read the squawks. The Dashboard shows the most urgent open one under the buttons; Squawks lists them all. Resolve one when it’s fixed. See Report and resolve squawks.
2. Log the work. Press Log MX on the Dashboard to record maintenance. Check any squawks the work fixed under Resolve open squawks. See Log maintenance.
3. Record oil changes. Oil, under Maintenance. Logging one resets the oil-due reminder. See Oil changes.
4. Sign off inspections. Inspections shows what’s due; record one when it’s done. Your hangar admin decides which inspections each aircraft has. See Inspections.
5. Keep the engine record. Engine, under Maintenance, holds each engine’s details and its overhauls – admins and mechanics can edit it. See Engines and overhauls.
6. Block the aircraft for maintenance. On Schedule, every booking you make is a maintenance block, so everyone can see the aircraft is down. See Block time for maintenance.

On a phone

The raised button in the middle of the tab bar is Log MX for you, not Start flight. Schedule, Inspections and the Maintenance group (Oil, Engine) are in the More tab. See RampMates on your phone.

Hear about new squawks

New squawks, Maintenance and inspections and the Daily summary of the hangar’s activity are all on by default. Turn off what you don’t want. See Choose what you’re notified about.

If something goes wrong

• An aircraft is grayed out or missing. A hangar admin can limit mechanics to some aircraft, just like pilots. See I can’t see an aircraft.
• You can’t book a flight, only a maintenance block. That’s the mechanic role. Your role is set per hangar by its admin. See Roles.
