Pilots: your first flight

RampMates is invite-only: your hangar admin adds you, and you fly from there. This is the whole path to your first logged flight. Each step links to the page with the details.

1. Accept your invite

1. Open the email You’re invited to Hangar: … on RampMates and press Set up your account. The link works for 7 days.
2. Type the name other members should see in Display name (optional), and choose a password of at least 8 characters.
3. Press Create account. You land in the app, signed in.

You can change your name, email address and password later, and add a photo, on Your account.

Already have a RampMates account from another hangar? The button in the email reads Existing account? Sign in to accept. The page it opens is the same one: type your existing password in the password box (the display name is ignored) and press Create account. No second account is made – the hangar is added to the one you have. See Belonging to more than one hangar.

2. Look over the aircraft

The Dashboard is about one aircraft at a time: its tail number, the Hobbs meter, and the buttons you’ll use most.

Before you fly, check two things on it:

• Open squawks. The most urgent one shows in a banner under the buttons. Press View squawk to read it and the rest. See Report and resolve squawks.
• Inspections. The Inspections card shows what’s coming due. See Inspections.

If your hangar has more than one aircraft, switch between them on a computer with the tail numbers above the dashboard or the aircraft card at the top of the sidebar; on a phone, press the tail number itself. An aircraft you haven’t been given is grayed out. See Belonging to more than one hangar for the picker.

3. Book it

Open Schedule and book the time you want on the aircraft. See Book an aircraft.

4. Start the flight

1. On the Dashboard, press Start flight.
2. Check the reading in Confirm … start hobbs? and type your starting fuel in Starting fuel (gallons).
3. If you have a booking on this aircraft starting within 60 minutes of now, RampMates offers Link to your … reservation?. Leave it checked, so the schedule shows the aircraft as flying and closing the flight completes the booking.
4. Press Yes, start flight.

A Flight in progress banner stays at the top of the screen until you close the flight out.

5. Close it out

When you’re back, press Close out flight on the banner (or End flight on the Dashboard). Enter the ending Hobbs and fuel and your route; if something needs looking at, press Attach a squawk to this flight. Then press Close flight. The flight goes into the Logbook. See Start and close a flight.

Forgot to press Start flight?

Log the whole flight afterwards instead: press Log a flight on the Recent flights card. See Log a flight after the fact.

If something goes wrong

• You can’t see the aircraft you expected. Your admin decides which aircraft you may fly. See I can’t see an aircraft.
• Start flight is refused. See “Start flight” is refused.
• “Token has expired” on the invite page. The link is more than 7 days old. Ask your hangar admin to send a new invite.
• “That email already has a RampMates account – sign in with its password to accept”. You already have an account: type that account’s password, not a new one. If you’ve forgotten it, see Reset your password.
• “This invite has already been used”. You’ve already joined. Sign in at the app instead.
• No invite arrived. See I didn’t get an email.
