Check out and check in

For: Pilots · Hangar admins

Checking out a booking starts your flight in the logbook, and the schedule shows the aircraft as flying. Checking in closes the flight and completes the booking.

  1. On Schedule, press your booking. Check out appears in its box from 60 minutes before the start until 60 minutes after it.
  2. Press Check out. The booking’s details open; press Check out again there.
  3. Confirm the start hobbs, or press Actual hobbs reads differently? Set your own start hobbs if the meter shows something else.
  4. Enter the fuel on board in Starting fuel (gallons).
  5. Press Check out and start flight.

The booking now shows Flying, and a Flight in progress banner shows at the top of the app while that aircraft is selected.

You can also start from the dashboard with Start flight. If you have a booking on that aircraft starting within 60 minutes of now, the form offers Link to your … reservation?. Leave it checked and the booking is checked out too. See Start and close a flight.

The quickest way back is the Flight in progress banner: press Close out flight and fill it in as usual. Closing the flight completes the booking.

From the schedule, a hangar admin can press the booking, press Check in, and press Check in again in the details that open. On a computer, a pilot can double-click their own booking and press Check in. Then:

  1. Enter End hobbs (and End tach if the aircraft has one).
  2. Enter the route under From and To. Local flight — same field copies the departure.
  3. Enter End gal. Leave $ / gal (optional) blank and RampMates works out the price itself.
  4. To report a problem, press Attach a squawk to this flight.
  5. Press Check in and close flight.

If the booking had an Est. flight hours and the hobbs came out quite different, RampMates says so after check-in so you can check the readings. The flight is closed either way.

Press Cancel on the Flight in progress banner, then Yes, cancel. The open flight is deleted and the booking goes back to reserved, ready to check out again. On a computer you can also double-click the booking and press Un-check-out, then Delete the open flight.

  • No Check out button. It only shows near the start time, on your own booking (an admin sees it on anyone’s). Too early? Come back nearer the time. Already marked a no-show? Ask an admin to clear it.
  • “The aircraft is under a maintenance block right now.” The aircraft is held for maintenance. Talk to whoever scheduled it.
  • “There’s already an open flight for this aircraft.” Someone else’s flight is still open. They need to close it first.
  • “Your account is … below the minimum balance this hangar requires before flying.” Your hangar asks members to keep money on account before they fly, and there’s no override. Talk to a hangar admin about topping it up.
